Georgia is a Naarm/Melbourne-based artist and registered Art Therapist with experience in sculpture, social practice and public program development.
Georgia Polichroniadis is an artist and qualified art therapist whose practice revolves around exploring the intersection of affect theory, materiality and social practice. She is intrigued by the notion of embodied and visceral language and examining the relationship between bodies, objects, space and the in-between.
Choosing to focus on working with sensations rather than representing ideas, Georgia uses her creative practice and skill set to push material limitations and bring disparate elements together.
She aims to create works that expand into the sensorial experience and visceral reactions that exist before consciousness. Her works often draw from personal experience and are designed to evoke an affective, emotional response.
Georgia is passionate about how art can engage and empower people and society and is eager to find ways where she can expand on her passion for community engagement and inclusion within the arts industry.
Alongside their studio practice, Georgia is a professionally registered art therapist (ANZACATA) whose therapeutic approach is grounded in client-led, trauma-informed principles. She has worked across forensic mental health, aged care, and community arts contexts. Her clinical work informs their artistic interest in neuroaesthetics, emotional literacy, and the transformative, relational capacities of art-making.
Georgia is driven by a belief that art holds profound potential to empower individuals and strengthen communities. Their practice continues to explore how creative processes can generate connection, challenge systems, and expand our capacity to feel, perceive, and be with one another.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture) from RMIT University, an Honours degree in Social Practice and Community Engagement from the Victorian College of the Arts (2020), and a Master of Art Therapy from La Trobe University.
